Purpose Calling Assignment

byPhilippa Baka Boamah

In living the day-to-day mundane routines of our lives, we get to a point where we begin to the question of meaning of life. Out of frustrations of this world we often ask or wonder; why are we here on earth. As believers we can find ourselves in this loop even though we somewhat believe we’ve got this life figured out and indeed we may bear this question easily because we tend to ‘leave it to God’.

Man was created in the image of God after His likeness. We are His image bearers and we are to reflect His nature, character and order. It’s in this state do we find meaning in life. We can fully express the image of God when we align to the will of God in our purpose, calling and assignment which can be termed as destiny. Hebrews 10:7; “Here I am as it is written about me in the volume of the books, to do your will O God.”

Every individual has a destiny specific to him, designed even befor3e conception and already equipped right from birth to live this great life. It is our duty to discover this and walk in it. Destiny is PURPOSE expressed through CALLING and fulfilled through ASSIGNMENT. Purpose is the ultimate expectation of every believer; to know God and make Him known. However, the medium through which we live this purpose is through our calling and assignment. And those are primarily unique to everyone.

Calling is how we are designed individually to express purpose. How we are wired uniquely and this is tied to our identity in Christ – who we are in Christ. Ephesians 4:11-16 “And he gave some, Apostles and some, Prophets, and some, Evangelists and some Pastors and Teachers; for the perfecting of the saints for the work.” These are but few examples of the giftings/talents deposited in us through which we uniquely express divine purpose. No two people are the same even though there may be similarities. Even identical twins have distinct traits. Both Samuel and Ezekiel were both prophets however God worked through them differently; Samuel prophetic ministry was through the word whereas Ezekiel’s was through visions. When this is well understood, it eliminates insecurities, anxiety, enviousness and comparison.

We discover our calling through obedience, character formation and stewardship of gifts and most importantly alignment of our Spirit, Soul and Body. Through this we are reprogrammed to the original architecture of man – our spirit comes alive and rule over the soul and body. The spirit takes absolute control, and the soul submits to the spirit and processes the message from the divine, and the body responds to it. It’s only when this alignment takes place that we live our full potential as image bearers and walk with confidence of who we are.

We live in our calling through Assignment, our seasonal responsibilities. It is what is required of us in different seasons of our lives. It is not constant but changes with time. It follows what is relevant at a particular stage of life in living out our calling. In maturing into calling, assignment will differ. In the early stages of training, you may go through stages of learning which will differ from when you are fully mature and walking in the capacity you are called to.

Misalignment produces internal fragments causing conflicts in our inner man. This leads to frustrations, confusion and unhappiness. One then tends to pursue happiness through questionable means and lifestyle. The devil then take advantage of this and lead us astray. We become waste resources in the kingdom and are cursed like the fig tree which bore no fruit. Alignment on the other hand brings clarity, preserves identity under pressure. Circumstances, situations and hardships do not change who you are. You are not perturbed about your environment. Alignment is achieved when we live in divine purpose through communion with God, scripture reading, worship – surrounding to God and submission. Calling outside alignment becomes ambition and self-serving leading to destruction.

To live purposefully with meaning, lets get aligned to the will of God for our lives, discover our calling and be diligent in our assignments so as to bear fruit, be fulfilled and hear the Master call us Good and faithful servant. Its in this that our inner man finds peace and true happiness.
